General Information

Opening Hours

The Nursery is open throughout the school year, including each half term holiday, but closes for Bank Holidays and during Christmas, Easter and summer holidays.

We open daily at 8:00am and close at 5:00pm on Monday to Friday.

Our morning sessions are from 8:00am to 1:00pm and our afternoon sessions are from 1:00pm to 5:00pm.

Parents are required to collect their children promptly at the end of their session. Failure to do so will result in a charge.

The nursery is closed to children for a staff training day once a term.

In 2009 we opened a summer club offering additional four weeks child care, although depending on staffing this sometimes only operates for two weeks. Summer club runs at a lower occupancy so there are limited spaces and must be pre-booked.

Collection and drop off

The nursery staff will only release a child into the care of their parent, carer or guardian, unless otherwise told.  If your child is being collected from the nursery by anyone other than yourself or those stated as your emergency contact please complete a ‘collection form’ which you can do with your child’s key person to include a password; it is helpful to send in or e-mail a photograph too. If we are not aware of any changes in collection of your child we will not release your child to that person.

Key Person System

Lord Williams’s School Day Nursery offers a ‘Key person’ system as required by the Early Years Foundation Stage framework. Each child is assigned a Key Person whose role is to be the main point of contact for both the child and parents/carers. The key person works closely with his or her own group of children and their parents, as well as joining other groups of children to share their experiences and become familiar with other carers. This means that our team get to know each other’s children well and each child has the support of the second close adult should their main carer be absent.

Parents and carers are valued as partners in their child’s development.  We are keen to share children’s experiences and achievements and to work together to address any concerns.

Parents can request meetings with their child’s key person at any point throughout the term. These appointments are to be made during nursery hours at a time convenient for both parents and the nursery. We also hold parents’ evenings throughout the year to exchange information about your child’s progress.

Each Key Person observes their key children and uses this information to plan suitable activities linked to their interests and needs, following the Early Years Foundation Stage framework.

We use an app called ‘BabysDays’ for which you will be given personalised and secure access to so that you can see your child’s progress and observations including photographs.

Staff

Our children are cared for by a qualified and professional staff team who all hold or are working towards a minimum childcare qualification of level 2, however, a high percentage of our staff team have achieved their level 3 qualification or above. We encourage and support further training opportunities for all our staff, developing their individual skills and knowledge in childcare and education working closely with our ‘Quality and Performance Officer’ who carries out regular supervision meetings with them

We offer training opportunities to students from Lord Williams’s School and Aylesbury College who provide additional support to our qualified staff team. All students are closely supervised whilst working in the nursery.
